Merry X-mas

My family was able to come spend Christmas with us and we are so glad they did. Christmas Eve we had tamales and stayed up late(1:00am); we were just having such a great time. We went to bed, then Phillip and I got up at 2:00am to put the turkey in the smoker. We didn't really sleep that much because we had to keep waking up, specially Phillip so he could make sure the turkey was cooking right. Maya woke up close to 8:00, and the kids were already awake, anxious to open their presents. We got the fire going, said prayer, read the Luke chapter 2, then opened presents.
I started cooking the side dishes for our late lunch, early Christmas dinner and then it was time to eat! Phillip did an awesome job, his smoked turkey was delicious! After dinner we watched "Polar Express" and "Rudolph." We had a great time! Gracias por venir a visitarnos :D

Christmas Concert

Last night the Colonial Ward Choir performed at the South Stake Christmas Concert and I was so happy because Phillip got to perform with them. He joined them a couple of weeks ago and it makes me so happy! They did such a great job, they sounded awesome!!!

We took a picture before we left to the concert.

Visiting my Family

After the race we visited some of my family. First we stopped to visit my cousin Ivan and his family who live in Sun Valley. We had a great time with them! We were able to take showers and get out of our wet clothes and shoes. We talked, ate and enjoyed of one another's company. We hope we see them more often we really enjoy being around them.
The Boys

After visiting Ivan, we went to see my uncle Enrrique and his family. We had a great time talking and eating pozole. Maya loves my cousins, she was all smiles for them.

Santa Monica Christmas Run-10k

Yesterday was a very special day for us because we ran our first organized race. The experience was incredible because everyone was so nice. I must admit that those were the funnest 10 km I have ever ran. It was so awesome because the views were so pretty, the air quality was good and we were able to breath a lot better. However, the weather wasn't so great, in fact we got soaked wet towards the finish, but we enjoyed it anyhow.
I was telling Phillip on our way home that I was so positive that Heavenly Father was with us because we felt so good running, the jogger worked good, the blister on my foot didn't bother me, and our time was better than we expected(57:19). I was expecting to see more baby joggers but there was only us and another couple with the their baby.
I feel so happy to have found a sport that I enjoy and that I look forward to doing everyday. I am so grateful for Phillip and for all the hard work and dedication he puts into running, but most importantly I am grateful for all the motivation he gives me. Growing up I was not an active teenager, I was obese and didn't have much self confidence. Phillip was my life saver because when I met him my life improved and I started doing new things. Now I feel like I am finally enjoying life and appreciating all the blessings that Heavenly Fathers gives me and my family. Now I am ready for a half-marathon and will continue to challenge myself to do more (maybe we'll run a marathon next year).

The Christmas Spirit

I can't believe Christmas Season is here. This will be Maya's first Christmas! I am so happy to have her with us, she will make this Christmas extra special. Today was my last day of school and I feel great :D I was able to finish decorating the inside of our home and hopefully next week we can work on the outside. But for now it makes me happy to look at the Nativity, the lights around the fireplace and the Christmas tree.

Thanksgiving

It was our first Thanksgiving by ourselves and I must admit I was really nervous that the food would not turn out. I am so thankful that everything tasted really good. I got all of my recipes from eatingwell.com, so most of the dishes were healthy :D. We had a Lemon-Garlic Roast Turkey & White-Wine Gravy, Wild Mushroom Stuffing, Maple-Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole and "Healthified" Pumpkin Cheesecake.
I am so grateful for all the blessing we have recived as a family, sometimes I feel like I don't deserve so much. I am so grateful for missionaries who dedicate 2 years of their lives to go and teach the word of God, because of them I am able to enjoy the blessings of having the Gospel in my life. I met Phillip at church and now we have a beautiful little family and we are sealed for all eternity. I am grateful for being able to go to school and getting an education, and for all the support that Phillip gives me. I love Phillip and Maya with all my heart, they mean the world to me.
I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving!

Training for the Race

We have been training for the race for a little over 2 1/2 months and so far we are doing great. Last week we were able to run 18 miles! Who would've thought that I would fall in love with running. I used to run to lose weight and I hated it, but now it is something I look forward to. Running is a great way to start the day, 4 days a week we get up and that's the first thing we do. Our family has become closer and stronger because of running. I hope that we can continue to run for a long time!

Murray Family Farms

We were not able to go trunk-or-treating tonight, but earlier today Phillip took us to a surprise place. He got home from running some errands and asked if I could get ready because he wanted to take us some place. I asked him where we were going but he wouldn't tell. Well, he took us to Murray Family Farms and it was really fun. We took pictures, walked through a corn maze, rode a hay ride, bought some chocolate and honey and had a great time.

Peterson's Halloween Party

We were able to go to the Peterson's Halloween Party tonight and we had a great time. I missed my hubby though!
Maya enjoyed hanging out with all the kids and a piece of bread. She held that piece of bread until it was all gone.
Maya was a bumble bee and I was supposed to be an adelita but a few people told me I looked like Sacagawea from the movie "A Night at the Museum."

Dinner with the Figueroas

(Leyna with a mouth full of whipped cream)
1.Excited
2. Not so excited
3. Scared!
Yesterday we had the Figueroas over for dinner. We enjoyed having them in our home. The girls get along so well, I think they had a good time together as well. They are looking for a home to buy, I hope they don't move too far so the girls can be friends and play together. We took some pictures of them eating some whipped cream. I wanted to take pictures of them playing together but they did not cooperate.
