Present From Grandparents

Last night Martie, Wes and Heather spent the night with us. They stopped on their way home from México. They brought Mayita the cutest dress and huaraches (mexican sandals), I am so excited for her to wear them! She is going to look super cute. Thanks for the gifts!!!

Christmas

Well, let me tell you about our Christmas. I was really excited because my family was coming to spend Christmas with us. But the best Christmas present was Phillip, he was able to stay home from work. A really nice lady volunteered to work for him on Christmas day.
We had lots of fun! We had tamales for dinner on Christmas Eve and we stayed up until 12 and waited for Phillip to get home. We went to bed, then in the morning we woke up at 7 and wanted to open the presents but then my mother and tia Eva called my grandparents in México, so we had to wait for them to finish talking on the phone. We didn't end up opening the presents until 10 am. But before we opened the present we read the Christmas story from the Bible, it was very special. I just felt the spirit so strong as we all took turns reading. After reading the story we opened the presents. I was excited to see Phillip's face when he opened his gifts from me, I think he liked his presents. My present didn't arrive on time, so today we went to pick it up at the post office. I love my present, it's beautiful!

Phillip and Marcos were giving me a hard time, they didn't want to smile for the camera.

My mom liked her present.

Our Dog Chip

We got a cute sweater for Chip last Saturday, we figured he could use one because he gets so cold when we take him for walks. He doesn't really like it, but we make him wear it anyway.

Baby Shower in Bakersfield

Today I had another baby shower. My friends from church organized it for me. It was so much fun!!! We didn't play any games but I had fun talking to all the ladies and eating of course, they prepared yummy food. I am really excited that little by little I am getting to know the ladies better. It was difficult for me at the beginning attending a ward, I was so used to my little Spanish Branch. But now I am very grateful to be part of the Colonial Ward.

Almost There

Today was a very busy day, we went to see my Doctor this morning and I was really excited because I thought she would tell me Mayita is coming soon. Well, she said that she is not descending so she wants me to walk for at least 30 minutes a day. She said that the walking should help, but if it doesn't then they might induce me. We will see what happens. I will keep you posted.

We Can Feel The Christmas Spirit

Yesterday we had a few chores to get done and we were also supposed to feed the missionaries. When we got home we were going to start cooking, but then the Elders called and told us that they were not going to be able to make it for dinner. Then Phillip and I didn't feel like cooking a big dinner just for the two of us, so we decided to go get a pizza and spend the evening putting up Christmas decorations. I was really exited to set up our Christmas tree that we bought last year for a really good deal. It is a little too big for our apartment, but it still looks beautiful. My favorite thing of all is setting up the nativity, it just makes me think of the Savior and of how grateful I am for him. Also, this year we will be blessed with a baby and it's so close to Christmas that it makes it even more special.

El día de ayer Phillip y yo pasamos la noche decorando nuestro pequeño apartamento. La estación Navideña me trae mucha felicidad, me hace recordar mucho a Cristo y también el agradecimiento que siento por todo lo que el hizo por nosotros.

Phillip the Cook

It has been a while since I last posted something. But today I am feeling in the mood to write a little and share some pictures with you. Last Sunday Phillip prepared dinner for us and I wanted to share some pictures of his delicious stuffed bell peppers. He did a really good job!

I promised my family that I would also write in Spanish.

A Nice Visit

We were really exited when we found out that Moe and Angela were coming to visit. We had not seen the whole family for a while. Moe had come to visit us previously by himself, but this time they all came! They got here Tuesday evening and left Saturday morning (early morning). We had a great time with them, they have really cute kids! I love their personalities :) My favorite day was Friday, because we got to celebrate Halloween together, it was so much fun. Since they didn't bring their costumes, we had to go and buy stuff to make them. They turned out great! I had a great time, I hope that we can visit each other more often. Thanks guys for coming! Maybe you guys can come back for the baby's blessing. :)

Who wants an alcachofa?

This is what we had on Sunday.
Chilorio, artichoke and mexican rice.
Phil is the best chilorio maker :) It was his first time making it and it came out really good.

Our Soccer Player

This morning like at around 6:00 Maya was kicking really hard, it felt a little bit weird. Phillip was sleeping and I did not want to wake him up, so I just laid there and felt her kicks. This little girl is going to be a very active child because she never stops moving. I just love to feel all her moves.

These past weeks I have been feeling anxious, I can't wait for the day she joins us. I feel very blessed because it's been a really good pregnancy so far. I haven't felt many pains and aches and my health seems to be doing fine. I am just very grateful that this has been a lovely experience for Phil and I.

I am a girl!

Today we had an ultrasound; I had been waiting for this day for the longest time. Phil had decided that he didn't want to find out the sex of the baby, but as soon as my Dr. told me that they could do an ultrasound for free he agreed. Well, it was an exiting experience for both of us, we got to see our baby. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger. The ultrasound tech. was really nice, she explained everything to us. Luckily the baby had it's little legs wide open so we were able to see in between them. It was a big surprise to find out it was Maya Valeria. Now I feel bad that all this time I have been calling her Lucas :( No wonder why she kicked me every time I called her Lucas :P just kidding!

We feel very blessed!

Via Arte

Yesterday we went to the Via Arte Festival. There were a lot of amazing artists sharing their talents with all of us on nothing more than pavement canvases. The artists used pastel chalk and painted straight on the pavement. Imagine how many pastel colors they used! We just walked around and enjoyed all the beautiful art. It's sad though that after they are done, they will have to wash away their master pieces.

Carrot-Raisin Cake

This is a recipe from the book, "Cooking for Two." I tried it today and it turned out really good.
Here is the recipe if you would like to try it:
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup finely grated carrots
1/4 cup chopped walnuts (opt.)
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup crushed pineapple

Mix oil, sugar, and egg together. Sift dry ingredients together and add to oil mixture. Stir in remaining ingredients and pour into greased 8x8 baking pan. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes. Cool and frost with cream cheese icing.

Cream Cheese Icing: Beat 1/4 cup cream cheese, 2 Tbsp. butter, and 1 cup powered sugar until creamy.

A visit with my new Doctor

This morning I had my first appointment with my new Dr. Her name is Dr. Kannappan and she was really nice and very helpful. She said everything is looking good. She checked the baby's heart rate and told us that it might be a boy; she explained to us that boys tend to have a lower heart rate than girls. I am going to have an ultrasound done next week, so hopefully we will find out then. Phil and I are really exited! Well, I'll keep you guys posted.

Hart Park

Yesterday after conference, Phil and I went to Hart Park. We took Chip with us and he had lots of fun. It was nice to walk around and talk about the things that we learned and liked about conference. The park was really packed with people so it wasn't as relaxing as we thought it would be, but we tried to make the best of it. We are planning on going back maybe next weekend and rent a canoe. I'll let you guys know how that goes.
